Abycon, George– 15 March 1779, Va. issued warrant for 1839.19.- to George Abycon for his property destroyed in Norfolk (Creel, Selected Virginia Revolutionary War Records, vol 3, 84, with ref. to Library of Virginia, Record Group 48, Auditor of Public Accounts, Inventory Entry 34, Daybooks: Receipts and Warrants, Auditors’ Account Volume II, 21).

Adair, John– In a booklet of Charles Lynch, Superintendent of the Lead Mines, showing accounts of cash exchanged for provisions for the use of the mines in 1780: John Adair, for 88 lbs pork (APA 661).

Adams, James– (1) In a booklet of Charles Lynch, Superintendent of the Lead Mines, showing accounts of cash exchanged for provisions for the use of the mines in 1780: James Adams for 100 lbs bacon; (2) Receipt, Oct 1778, James Adams received of Charles Lynch 180 pounds for “forty days waggoning wood &c at Lead Mines, and for waggoning two loads lead to Richmond, & finding ourselves & horses &c” (APA 661). There are other receipts for this man in the file.

Adams, John– In a booklet of Charles Lynch, Superintendent of the Lead Mines, showing accounts of cash exchanged for provisions for the use of the mines in 1780: John Adams for 200 lbs bacon (APA 661).

Adams, Nipper– On a list of guns & blankets belonging to sundry persons which was “pressed” for use of Halifax County militia when they marched with Gen Greene’s army to Guilford NC, Nipper Adams 1 rifle valued at 2.5.0, also 1 rifle valued at 4.0.0 (APA 238).

Adams, Richard– New Kent County; Commonwealth Dr. to Richd. Adams, Aug 1780 for 10 days bringing corn from Thilman’s Quar. & John P. Posey’s to Cumb., 900.-.-, for rent his houses at Cumb. abt. 5 or 6 weeks as a Hospital impress’d by order, 7.10.-, and for damages done sd. houses, 12.-.- (APA 238).

Adams, Robert Jr.– Receipt 18 Sept 1778, “Robt. Adams Junr.” received of Stephen Sanders fifty shillings on acct. of John Pruwits for services done at the Lead mines in sawing &c” (APA 661).

Adams, Sylvester– Pittsylvania County; On a return of waggons that did service from 8 Sept to 31 Dec 1781 ordered by John Buckley Deputy Commissioner of Provision Law, Sylvester Adams for 1 waggon, 4 horses, entered State Service 24 Sept for 56 days (APA 238).

Aldred, Christ.– Frederick County; Winchester, 24 March 1781, James (x) Finley, Andw. (x) Hoyle, [illeg], Henry Anderson and Christ. Aldred acknowledged receipt of 3024 pounds for building ten cabins for the use of the prisoners of war kept at this place (APA 238).

Alexander, William– Virginia to William Alexander Dr. To acting as waggon master from Rockbridge County for militia of sd. county on their way to the seige of York, 12 days…then appointed by waggon master genl. for United States under whom acted 50 days. 3 March 1790, William Alexander appeared before Charles Campbell JP of Rockbridge County and made oath that he receiv’d no satisfaction for any part thereof (APA 238).

Alley, James– Russell County; (1) [the following regards the account of Patrick Porter, Sgt at Duncan’s Fort. It is a two sided sheet that appears to relate mostly to the receipt of beef for Duncan’s Fort in 1778. The following name appears on the back, along with a number. The number is assumed to be the number of beeves supplied…or perhaps some other commodity] Jas. Alley, 9; (2) [certificate] 19 June 1778, John Cuzret and Lewis Green appraise a steer the property of James Alley to ten pounds, being for the use of militia drawn into service in Washington County at Liberty Fort on Clinch River under command of Capt John Duncan…[affidavit] 16 Sept 1789, James Alley Senr. came before James Wharton JP and swore that he never got paid for said beef (APA 238).

Alley, Thomas– Russell County; [the following regards the account of Patrick Porter. It is two sided sheet that appears to relate mostly the receipt of beef for Duncan’s Fort] Duncan’s Fort, 15 Aug 1778, received from Thomas Alley one fifth quarter, 0.18.0 (APA 238).

Anderson, Henry– Frederick County; Winchester, 24 March 1781, James (x) Finley, Andw. (x) Hoyle, [illeg], Henry Anderson and Christ. Aldred acknowledged receipt of 3024 pounds for building ten cabins for the use of the prisoner of war kept at this place (APA 238).

Anderson, Isaac– Rockbridge County; On a return of waggons employed by Samuel Lyle, Commissioner, for transporting provisions &c to Richmond, Williamsburg &c, 2 Dec 1781, Isaac Anderson for 30 days (APA 238).

Anderson, Mede– Halifax County; On a list of guns & blankets belonging to sundry persons which was “pressed” for the use of Halifax militia under Capt Powell when they marched with Maj Gen Greene’s Army to Guilford NC, Mede Anderson 1 smooth gun valued at 1.0.0 (APA 238).

Anderson, Nathaniel– Louisa County; On a list of certificates issued by Thomas Johnson Commissioner of the Provision Law in 1780 & 1781 for services for the publick etc., certificate issued to Nathl. Anderson for foriage for 52 beeves, 62.10.0 (APA 238).

Anderson, William– 12 March 1779, Va. issued warrant for 30.-.- to Wm. Anderson the aged father of 2 Contl. soldiers per order Henrico Court (Creel, Selected Virginia Revolutionary War Records, vol 3, 83, with ref. to Library of Virginia, Record Group 48, Auditor of Public Accounts, Inventory Entry 34, Daybooks: Receipts and Warrants, Auditors’ Account Volume II, 17).

Archer, Thomas- In Peter Pelham’s account of prisoners in the public gaol for whom he provided necessaries from 21 Dec 1777 to Feb 1778, Thos. Archer prisoner 3 days, received 26 Feb 1778 (APA 139, folder 1781).

Argenbright, Jacob– Rockingham County; In a booklet of John Smith relative to cows that he collected and drove to Winchester, showing Jacob Argenbright for 1 beef, Nov 1781 (APA 238).

Armstrong, Robert– Greenbrier County; 27 Oct 1789, Robert Armstrong came before Wm. Craig and Wm. Ward, Justices, and declared that in Nov 1780 he delivered 40 odd head of cattle to Jno. Hawkins Commissary at the Barracks in Albemarle and got his receipt for them, which camt to 11500 pounds, for which he never received satisfaction; there are two other affidavits for Robert Armstrong in the file (APA 238).

Atchinson, Nathan– Stafford County; Accounts of George Burroughs, Commissioner for Stafford, certified by him 14 Jan 1782 [includes original signatures]: To Nathan Atchinson 36 days driving cattle (APA 238).
