Davis, Nat– In a booklet of Charles Lynch, Superintendent of the Lead Mines, showing accounts of cash exchanged for provisions for the use of the mines in 1780: Nat Davis for 2 gallons rum & some candlewick (APA 661).

Day, Francis– Receipt, 1 Dec 1778, “Francis (x) Day” received of Charles Lynch 46 pounds “for 920 lbs of beef with hides & tallow &c for the use of the Lead Mines,” wit. Stephen Sanders (APA 661).

Dean, Rebekah– Halifax County Court 18 June 1778, “James Bates Gent. is appointed and desired to furnish Rebekah Dean a poor widow who hath three sons as soldiers in the Continental Service, with such necessarys as she may stand in need of” (Creel, Halifax County Virginia Court Orders 1774-1783, 116, with reference to Plea Book 9, 322).

Dickson, Thomas- Halifax County; On a list of guns & blankets belonging to sundry persons which was “pressed” for the use of Halifax militia under Capt Powell when they marched with Maj Gen Greene’s Army to Guilford NC, Thomas Dickson 1 smooth gun valued at 1.0.0; also on a list of blankets taken for the use of Capt McDaniel’s company for same purpose (APA 238).

Dillon, Thomas– Halifax County; On a list of blankets taken for the use of Capt McDaniel’s company when they marched with Maj Gen Greene’s army to Guilford NC, Thomas Dillon 1 blanket valued at 0.6.0 (APA 238).

Dix, William– Pittsylvania County; On a return of waggons that did service from 8 Sept to 31 Dec 1781 ordered by John Buckley Deputy Commissioner of Provision Law, William Dix for 1 waggon, 4 horses, entered State Service 21 Sept for 62 days (APA 238).

Donnely, Charles- 21 April 1779, Va. issued warrant to 47.16.6 to Charles Donally for driving cattle, waggon hire &c on the Cherokee Expedition (Creel, Selected Virginia Revolutionary War Records, vol 3, 97, with ref. to Library of Virginia, Record Group 48, Auditor of Public Accounts, Inventory Entry 34, Daybooks: Receipts and Warrants, Auditors’ Account Volume II, 79).

Donnely, James– Receipt, 20 Dec 1778, “Jams. (x) Donelly” received of Charles Lynch 30 pounds cash “besides a small sorrell horse belonging to the Lead Mines for one years service at the same,” wit. John Ward (APA 661).

Dougherty, Jerrard– 24 May 1781, “Dr. Chas. Lynch to Jerrard Dougherty”  [signed “Gerrard”] for carriage of a load of bacon from Bedford to Lead Mines, for hauling wood at mines, for carriage of 12 bars of lead to Oxford Works, total 900.-.- (APA 661).

Dowell, Nath.– Russell County; [Receipt] 8 Oct 1781, Sgt. Nath. Dowell recd. of John Thompson 1 barrell of corn & 300 lbs of bacon for use of company of rangers in service on the frontiers of Washington County…15 Sept 1789, “Johnson” Thompson appeared before H. Smith and made oath that he never received satisfaction for the same (APA 238).

Drake, Samuel– Receipt 21 Sept 1778, “Saml. Drake” received of Charles Lynch 40 pounds “for the waggonage of a load of lead to Mr. Winstons & going to Oxford Iron Works for iron & provisions &c” (APA 661).

Duncan, Jesse– In a booklet of Charles Lynch, Superintendent of the Lead Mines, showing accounts of cash exchanged for provisions for the use of the mines in 1780: Jesse Duncan for 100 lbs bacon (APA 661).

Duncan, Rachel– Russell County; [the following regards the account of Patrick Porter. It is two sided sheet that appears to relate mostly the receipt of beef for Duncan’s Fort in 1778. The following name appears on the back, followed by a number. The number is assumed to be the number of beeves supplied…or perhaps another commodity] Rachel Duncan,  7 (APA 238).

Dunlap, Alexander– Augusta County, 6 Nov 1781, Peter Hull certifies Alexr. Dunlap and his horse were employed 27 days driving cattle from Augusta County to Williamsburg and furnished himself with 8 days’ rations. 16 Apr 1783, Alexr. Dunlap swore to the within before George Poage (APA 238).

Dunlap, Ephraim– Washington County; [affidavit] 9 Sept 1789, before Robert Craig JP, Ephraim Dunlap stated that in 1775 a certain William Russell was appointed Capt of a company to guard frontiers on the western parts of Holsten &c, and that he was appointed Commissary and on settlement of the accounts the committee omitted the time and expence of the subscriber’s travelling to and from the “citidel” about 420 miles going and returning and twenty days attendance, for which he never received any pay…W. Russell certified to Dunlap’s claim (APA 238).
