Barnett, James– Botetourt County, 6 Dec 1789, James Barnett certifies before John Kent that he found provisions for the public to the amount of 35 pounds and sent vouchers to Richmond for the same, but never received satisfaction (APA 238).

Birchet, Edward– Brunswick County Court 28 Oct 1782, “Edward Birchet’s claim for one gun taken for the regular service was considered. It appeared on his oath that the said gun was carried into the service by his son and that the same has never been returned, his son being killed in the service-he was allowed 5.10.0” (Creel, Brunswick County Virginia Court Orders 1774-1782, 218, with reference to Order Book 13, 486).

Blackmore, John– Russell County; [affidavit] 25 Sept 1789 John Carter appeared before Charles Bickley JP and made oath that in 1778 he furnished a steer for use of militia on duty, and also in 1781 he furnished 121 bushels of corn for use of the publick to John Blakemore Deputy Commissary under John Lathem, and he never receiv’d compensation (APA 238).

Blackmore, Joseph– Russell County; [the following regards the account of Patrick Porter. It is two sided sheet that appears to relate mostly the receipt of beef for Duncan’s Fort in 1778. The following name appears on the back, followed by a number. The number is assumed to be the number of beeves supplied…or perhaps another commodity] Joseph Blackmore, 14 (APA 238).

Blackston, James- In Peter Pelham’s account of prisoners in the public gaol for whom he provided necessaries from 21 Dec 1777 to Feb 1778, Jas. Blackston prisoner 70 days (APA 139, folder 1781).

Boler, Peter– Rockingham County; In a booklet of John Smith relative to cows that he collected and drove to Winchester, showing Peter Boler 1 beef, Oct 1781 (APA 238).

Bolling, Robert– Dinwiddie County; 19 April 1781, Ro. Armistead and Joseph Whitehead, called upon to view the damages committed from the U.S. on Mr Robert Bolling’s land, are of opinion that the whole amount of damages is 16162 pounds (APA 238).

Bond, Mary– Creel, in Selected Virginia Revolutionary War Records, vol 3, p 86 shows that on 20 Mar 1779 Chas. Patteson was issued warrant by Virginia for Mary Still (2o pounds), Mary Day (60 pounds), Mary Bond (30 pounds), Sarah McManaway (20 pounds), “widows & mothers of several soldiers in the Continental Army allowed by order Buckingham Court.” Creel’s reference is to Library of Virginia, Record Group 48, Auditor of Public Accounts, Inventory Entry 34, Daybooks: Receipts and Warrants, Auditors’ Account Volume II, 27.

Booth, Thomas– Gloucester County; 10 Aug 1781, Commonwealth of Virginia to Thomas Booth Dr., to hire of my cart, 6 oxen & man to carry 4 iron kettles to camp in King & Queen (APA 238).

Boram, Jno.– “Jno. Borum” allowed for pasturage of 23 beeves 5 days, from accounts of M. Clay, Deputy Commissioner of Provision Law (APA 238).

Bostion, John– Frederick County; no date, State of Virginia to John Bostion 600 pounds for building two cabins at Winchester Barracks (APA 238).

Boswell, John– Louisa County; On a list of certificates issued by Thomas Johnson Commissioner of the Provision Law in 1780 & 1781 for services for the publick etc., certificate issued to Col John Boswell for pasturing 99 public cattle, 59.12.0 (APA 238).

Bowles, Deborah– 9 March 1780, Virginia issued warrant Deborah Bowles [of Hanover County?] for boarding a child of William Cowthorn’s a soldier in the Cont. service 8.-.- (Library of Virginia, Record Group 48, Auditor of Public Accounts, Inventory Entry 34, Daybooks: Receipts and Warrants, Auditors’ Account Volume V, 10).

Breckinridge, James- 23 May 1781, William Preston certifies that James Breckinridge rode express on public business 170 miles (APA 139, folder 1781).

Breedlove, Elizabeth– 21 March 1780, Virginia issued warrant to “Eliza. Bleedlove” for maintenance of herself and three children per certificate from Clerk of Buckingham Court (Library of Virginia, Record Group 48, Auditor of Public Accounts, Inventory Entry 34, Daybooks: Receipts and Warrants, Auditors’ Account Volume V, 29).

Brooks Thomas– Essex County; 19 June 1781 account of people employed in cow driving shows Thos. Brooks drove 9 days; also shown for driving 5 additional days (APA 238).

Brown, George Jr– [1] Ordered the Sheriff summon Robert Stott, John Lewis, John Keate, Thomas Cralle, Jeremiah Lewis, Rodham Douglas, George Brown Junr. and Luke Headley to appear at next court to shew in what manner they obtained certificats of their having taken the oath of allegiance to this state, having refused to take it in their own county (Richmond County Order Bk 18, 31); [2] Robert Stott and others inhabitants of this county being summon’d to shew in what manner they obtained their certificates of having taken the oath of allegiance produced a writing from under the hand of Thomas Crallie a Majestrate of the County of Northumberland which writing is by the court ordered to be preserved among the papers in the Clerk’s Office of this county (Richmond County Order Bk 18, 35).
