Lamar, William- Augusta Co Court Martial 17 Apr 1777, “Lamarr” summoned for not appearing at two musters, Capt Hewett. [ACCM:71]

Lamb, James- Princess Anne Co, Lynhaven Par; Convicted of treason at a session of the General Court sitting 15 June 1782, sentenced to hang 19 July 1782. The House of Delegates, on 18 June 1782, resolved that he was a proper object of mercy and “pardoned” him for said treason, provided that he move to Augusta Co and live there for the remainder of his life. The Senate rejected the resolution of the House, and the case was referred to the Supreme Court of Appeals, which also rejected the House resolution. [GENCOURT1; SUPREME1:20-22]

Lamb, Jonathan- Accomack Co, on a list of militia delinquents who did not attend muster of 16 May 1778. [ACCOM1]

Lamb,Walter- Henry Co; 21 Jan 1777, ordered he be summoned to appear in court, he being a native of Great Britain, to show cause why he should not depart the Colony, per Act of Assembly; 30 Jan 1777, he did not appear in court, and the court were of opinion that he fell under the relevant Act; 21 July 1777, he appeared in court, and it appearing that he had shown a friendly disposition to the common cause, he was discharged. Lambert, Philip– Montgomery County; 6 April 1779, Warrant from Walter Crockett and James McGavock to the Sheriff; “Whereas complaint has been made to us upon oath that Philip Lambert […and others] have entred into a conspiracy to seize the publick magaziens, and then to proceed to kill murder and lay waste this county,” warrant to apprehend them. Lewis, Jeremiah– [1] Ordered the Sheriff summon Robert Stott, John Lewis, John Keate, Thomas Cralle, Jeremiah Lewis, Rodham Douglas, George Brown Junr. and Luke Headley to appear at next court to shew in what manner they obtained certificats of their having taken the oath of allegiance to this state, having refused to take it in their own county (Richmond County Order Bk 18, 31); [2] Robert Stott and others inhabitants of this county being summon’d to shew in what manner they obtained their certificates of having taken the oath of allegiance produced a writing from under the hand of Thomas Crallie a Majestrate of the County of Northumberland which writing is by the court ordered to be preserved among the papers in the Clerk’s Office of this county (Richmond County Order Bk 18, 35).

Lewis, John-Montgomery County; Warrant 27 April 1779 from Walter Crockett and James McGavock to any officer civil or military, which sd officer is empowered to command a guard for his assistance; “Whereas complaint has been made upon oath that John Lewis […and others] have entred into a conspiracy and taken an oath not to lift arms against the King of Great Britain or his heirs and to join the Inglish and Indians and to assist them in destroying the country,” warrant to take “the above named traitors to their county” [MCCC]

Logan, George- Loyalist claim; Kemp’s Landing, Princess Anne Co; deceased, claim made by widow Isabella; Merchant; Lived 30 years in VA and was a Majestrate; Administered oaths of allegiance to King; Entered Lord Dunmore and his officers; Took refuge in Lord Dunmore’s fleet for nine months. Lunsford, Ezekiel- Northumberland County, 18 Sept 1780 circular from County Lt Thomas Gaskins stating that on the 14th and 15th of Sept, Lunsford participated in a riot against the draft law and then absconded, and he was therefore condemned and ordered to be apprehended. [GASKINS]

Lyne, William- King and Queen Co; At a meeting of the K&Q Co Committee 9 Dec 1775, William Lyne appeared on a charge of endeavoring to prejudice the minute service and exciting a mutiny; it appeared to the Committee that Lyne “imprudently dropped expressions tending to injure the minute service,” but they believed he had no intention of exciting a mutiny and that he “appears to be afriend to American Liberty.” [SCRIB5:92-3]
