Keate, John– [1] Ordered the Sheriff summon Robert Stott, John Lewis, John Keate, Thomas Cralle, Jeremiah Lewis, Rodham Douglas, George Brown Junr. and Luke Headley to appear at next court to shew in what manner they obtained certificats of their having taken the oath of allegiance to this state, having refused to take it in their own county (Richmond County Order Bk 18, 31); [2] Robert Stott and others inhabitants of this county being summon’d to shew in what manner they obtained their certificates of having taken the oath of allegiance produced a writing from under the hand of Thomas Crallie a Majestrate of the County of Northumberland which writing is by the court ordered to be preserved among the papers in the Clerk’s Office of this county (Richmond County Order Bk 18, 35).

Keith, John– Jailed for 10 days in Bedford County in 1780 on suspicion of toryism (Abercrombie, vol 1, 99).

Kellum, Curtis- Accomack Co; 15 Jan 1776, a complaint having been lodged against Kellum, a native of Accomack Co, for opposing the measures of the Convention, for opposing recruitts being raised, and for expressing language inimical to the American cause, and for expressing himself in words viz. “Damn the Bostonians, what are they but a pack of G-d damn’d rebels,” sd Kellum appeared and gave a recantation. Kettering, Francis–Montgomery County; Warrant 27 April 1779 from Walter Crockett and James McGavock to any officer civil or military, which sd officer is empowered to command a guard for his assistance; “Whereas complaint has been made upon oath that Frances Kattering, Peter Kattering […and others] have entred into a conspiracy and taken an oath not to lift arms against the King of Great Britain or his heirs and to join the Inglish and Indians and to assist them in destroying the country,” warrant to take “the above named traitors to their county.” [MCCC]

Kettering, Jacob-Montgomery County; 18 Nov 1777, warrant from Wm. Preston “to any sworn Constable” in Montgomery County; Whereas Jacob Kittering “hath on many occasions declared himself publicly a Tory, consequently an enemy to the state, that he abuses the Continental Congress and all their proceedings,” etc., warrant to take said Kittering and bring him before some Justice of the Peace for said county to answer the charges. [MCCC] He had declared himself an enemy of the state…admitted to refusing paper currency…appeared before a jury and was fined 1250 pounds and imprisonment one year. [KEGLEY:137]

Kidd, Joseph– Brunswick County Court 25 March 1777, “Joseph Kidd being cited to appear before the court as supposed to have spoken words inimical to the American Cause of liberty, appeared accordingly, and on hearing the evidence, it is the opinion of the court that the said Kidd is entirely innocent of the charge and ought to be considered as a friend to America.” [BRUNOB14, 143]
