Walston, William- Sized at Chesterfield Courthouse on or after 1 Sept 1780, age 28, 5 ft 10 ½ in, Weaver, born in and resides Caroline Co VA, brown hair, gray eyes, ruddy complexion, enlisted 1 May 1777 for term of 3 years, “Carolina Virga. Taken up as a deserter given himself up 31st Augt. ‘80”. [ACC23816:46]

Wishart, John-6th Regiment; Enlisted 2 Jan 1777 for duration of war, served as Pvt under Capts David Laird, Nathan Lamme, deserted 1 Feb 1778, re-joined 13 April 1778. [M881: Roll 1018]

Womack, William- [“Warmack”] Halifax Co; “Substitute,” on a list, dated 23 Feb 1781 at Cabin Point, of men who deserted from Maj Jones’s Battalion of militia. [ACC36918]

Wood, John– Augusta County court martial, 16 April 1779, John Woods of Capt Simpson’s company, who was returned for deserting from his command when he was a substitute for Robert Wallace drafted in Capt Bell’s company on the head of Greenbrier about the last of September, was fined four pounds and to be imprisoned thirty days (Creel, Selected Virginia Revolutionary War Records, vol 2, 45).
