Hagarty, Thomas- age 23, 5’4”, “Ditcher,” res. Spotsylvania Co, born Ireland, engaged as substitute 20 July 1781 to serve for 18 months, had been in service before, “deserted on his way to the rendezvous.” [ACC24296:79-80]

Hakerst, William-4th Regt; Recruited in Berkeley Co by Maj Isaac Beall, enlisted 28 Jan 1777 for term of three years, apparently deserted, “imprisoned in Berkley goal”. [M881:Roll 973]

Hamrick, Benjamin-3rd & 4th Regt; enlisted 9 Dec 1777 for term of 3 years, served as Pvt and Cpl under Capts John Chilton, John Blackwell, reduced from Cpl to Pvt 14 Aug 1778, deserted 25 June 1779. [M881:Roll 962]

Hanson, Elisha- Sized at Chesterfield Courthouse on or after 1 Sept 1780, age 18, 5 ft 7 ½ in, Farmer, born in and resides Culpeper Co VA, light hair, gray eyes, fair complexion, enlisted for duration of war, “Deserted from Col Green on march to south.” [ACC23816:79]

Henderson, Joseph– Augusta County court martial 26 Oct 1778, Joseph Henderson of Capt Thompson’s company returned for deserting from Capt Givens’s company when sent out on duty under command of LtCol Bowyer on expedition against the Indians…acquitted on account of his sickness at time he is charged with the above desertion (Creel, Selected Virginia Revolutionary War Records, vol 2, 24).

Hicks, Charles- Sized at Chesterfield Courthouse on or after 1 Sept 1780, age 30, 5 ft 5 ½ in tall, Planter, born Sussex Co VA, residence Isle of Wight Co, brown hair, gray eyes, dark complexion, enlisted 15 Sept 1780 for 5 years 11 months, 10 days [thus], “deserted.” [ACC23816:27]
