Garrett, Henry– (1) Louisa County; On a list of certificates issued by Thomas Johnson, Commissioner of the Provision Law, 26 Nov 1780, Henry Garrett  issued certificate for public services valued to 208.6.8; (2) Louisa County; On a list of certificates issued by Thomas Johnson Commissioner of the Provision Law in 1780 & 1781 for services for the publick etc., certificate issued to Henry Garrett for pasturing & feeding 9 beeves and carrying them to Albemarle Barracks, 194.0.0, also for feeding & pasturing 56 beeves 570.0.0, also for driving cattle 1500.0.0 (APA 238).

Gayle, Joshua– Gloucester County; 13 March 1781, the United States Dr. to Joshua Gayle for schooner Tryall, burden 20 tens, impressed in public service by Col Peyton from the above date to 1 April 1781 (APA 238).

George, Jonadab– Halifax County; On a list of guns & blankets belonging to sundry persons which was “pressed” for use of Halifax County militia when they marched with Gen Greene’s army to Guilford NC, “Jonedab” George 1 rifle valued at 7.0.0 (APA 238).

George, William– Pittsylvania County; On a return of persons employed in the “Commissioners Dept” from 8 Sept to 31 Dec 1781, William George for riding express 1 day, no sum shown (APA 238).

Gibbons, John- In accounts of William Finnie, Deputy Quarter Master General, 1 July 1776, “paid John Gibbons ferry keeper at York 26.8.3” (APA 245).

Gibson, George– Russell County; (1) 29 April 1779, before Charles Baskin, Matthew Kenney and John McCune swore that the following was impressed of George Gibson: a horse for the use of the drafts of Capt Johnson’s comp. ordered out under Capt William Cankid [Kinkead] by Col Sampson Matthews for the protection of the frontiers of Augusta County…27 Oct 1789 before John Frazer of Russell County came George Gibson who swore to the within account and that he never received any satisfaction for the same; (2) 5 May 1779, Capt Wm. Kinkead certifies that Geo. Gibson drove 5 pack horses 11 days and 4 horses 5 days, and sd. Gibson is allow’d 8 days to drive 6 horses home from “my station on Wt. fork of Monongahala” for the use of militia ordered out for protection of frontiers of Augusta County…27 Oct 1789, George Gibson appeared before John Frazer JP of Russell County and swore he never received satisfaction for the within (APA 238).

Glass, Vincent– 17 Aug 1781, Harry Terrell certifies that “Mr Vinson Glases waggon team & driver has been inploy’d in the servis of the Lead Mines from the twenty fifty day of November 1780 till the fourth day of January 1781” (APA 661).

Goggin, William– Receipt, Bedford, Oct 1778, “William Goggin” received of Charles Lynch 60 pounds for “waggonage of a load of lead and provisans &c from the Lead Mines to Richmond,” wit. John Shackleford (APA 661).

Going, Shaderick– Halifax County; On a list of guns & blankets belonging to sundry persons which was “pressed” for the use of Halifax militia under Capt Powell when they marched with Maj Gen Greene’s Army to Guilford NC, Shaderick Going 1 rifle valued at 2.10.0 (APA 238).

Gooch, Thomas– Louisa County; On a list of certificates issued for publick services &c by Garrett Minor Commissioner of the Provision Law, Thos. Gooch issued certificate for waggonage Oct 1780, valued to 2480.-.- (APA 238).

Goodin, Stephen– Aug 1781, account for 120.-.- “paid Stephen Goodin for 3 months wages allowed for conducting the goods belonging to the state of Virga. from New Orleans to Fort Jefferson on Mississippi” (APA 206, Box 659).

Goodwin, Boswell– Dinwiddie County; 29 March 1784, Rt. Armistead & Joseph Whitehead, being called upon by Capt Boswell Goodwyn to view the damages done to his land by troops in 1780 under command of Gen Scott, are of opinion that the damages amount to 50 pounds specie (APA 238).

Gratton, John– Rockingham County; (1) In a booklet of John Smith relative to cows that he collected and drove to Winchester, showing Jno. Gratton for 3 beeves, 3 Nov 1781; (2) same booklet, 3 Nov 1781, to John Grattan for pasturage for 35 beeves for 1 night  (APA 238).

Graves, Thomas– Louisa County; On a list of certificates issued for publick services &c in 1780 by Garrett Minor Commissioner of the Provision Law, Thomas Graves issued certificate for waggonage in Novr. valued to 1500.-.- (APA 238).

Gray, James- 6 Nov 1782, James Gray received 11.12.10 from Joseph Nevill for the use of the militia from Hampshire County attending the surveyor in running the boundary line between Pennsylvania and Virginia (APA 139, folder “1783”). There are other certificates for Gray in the folder.

Green, James– [receipt] 6 April 1781, Samuel Porter and James Green received from Patrick Porter one bag and bell for our use “as spyes in the frunteers of Washington County” by order of Capt John Snoddy…Russell County, 16 Sept 1789, Patrick Porter appeared before Thos. Carter JP and swore that he never received satisfaction for the within (APA 238).

Green, Lewis Jr.– Russell County; [the following regards the account of Patrick Porter. It is two sided sheet that appears to relate mostly the receipt of beef for Duncan’s Fort] Duncan’s Fort, 10 Aug 1778, received from Lewis Green Junior 327 pounds of neat beef…also shown on the back of the sheet providing 6 beeves [or some other commodity] (APA 238).

Green, Lewis Sr.– Russell County; [the following regards the account of Patrick Porter. It is two sided sheet that appears to relate mostly the receipt of beef for Duncan’s Fort in 1778. The following name appears on the back, followed by a number. The number is assumed to be the number of beeves supplied…or perhaps another commodity] Lewis Green Senr., 6 (APA 238).

Greenup, John– (1) Receipt 4 Feb 1778, John (x) Greenup received of Charles Lynch 42.6.4 “it being in consideration for 2116 lbs of gross pork” for the Lead Mines, wit. John Ward Jr. (Library of Virginia, Record Group 48, Auditor of Public Accounts, Inventory Entry 661, “Lead Mines”); (2) Montgomery County; 22 Sept 1782, Robt. Love Comissary certifies that that Commonwealth is indebted to John Greenup for one pack horse for 5 days carrying provisions for the use of Capt Love’s company on duty (APA 238).

Griggs, John– Halifax County; On a list of blankets taken for the use of Capt McDaniel’s company when they marched with Maj Gen Greene’s army to Guilford NC, John Griggs 1 blanket valued at 0.5.0 (APA 238).

Grim, Charles-Frederick County; no date, State of Virginia to Charles Grim for building 20 cabbins for the reception of the prisoners of war 6042.-.-; Winchester, 23 March 1781, Charles Grim, Adam Kurtz and Michael Miller acknowledge receipt of 6042 pounds for building 20 cabins for the reception of prisoners of war at this place (APA 238).

Grimes, Agatha- In accounts of William Finnie, Deputy Quarter Master General, 1 Nov 1777, “paid Agatha grimes house rent 6.6.8” (APA 245).

Guthrie, Francis– 29 Sept 1781, William Preston certified that Francis Guthery rode express on public business 40 miles out and returning (APA 139, folder “1781”).
